Topic: Biomechanics/Design (Elbow)
Status: Completed
Elbow surgery is notoriously difficult, with outcomes that would be deemed unacceptable if applied to the hip or knee. One of the main reasons for this is the lack of fundamental anatomic data in the literature. The lack of basic data impinges upon fracture fixation, prosthetic replacements of the radial head and elbow replacements, which have all been designed without any significant demographic. The aim of this study is to digitise in 3-D, 60 elbow skeletons from 30 individuals. Once the bones have been digitised, the bony anatomy will be three dimensionally reconstructed and analysed. The results of this work will be to provide an authoritative database of anatomical data and dimensions for the future use of researchers and clinicians.
